This weekend, give yourself permission to not care what everyone else thinks. Let yourself think you’re great, and you’re rocking the life you’re leading. Recognize how what you do, who you uplift, and what you accomplish make you who you are. Be those things. Rock those things. Be YOU. And be awesome at it.Read more about how your body is an instrument for all the good things you accomplish, and not something meant to just decorate here:http://www.beautyredefined.net/body-powerful-use-instrument-ornament/

So I live in France (I thought it could be relevant information since, here, official paperworks ask people for their sex, instead of their gender, these kinds of things…) and I have a very cool hair dresser (not that you care) but he’s too far away from my place and now that I have short hair…

As someone who does hair, here’s why:

Men usually aren’t as much work whether their hair is long or short. it takes far less time to do a mens cut because they like the basics, and they usually don’t need as much. They take less product ( rarely conditioner, usually only shampoo and maybe a little styling product) and they usually take less time. Mens haircuts are pretty simple.

When it comes to womens hair, whether it’s short or not, it’s more work, and more product.  Cutting and styling a short womans haircut can be the trickiest because you usually don’t want it to look masculine and it may take a lot more refinement to make it just right. We also want to make sure it looks right once its dry which is why blow drying it plays a larger role in womans hair.

There are always exceptions to both, but that’s the break down. Keep in mind you’re paying for more than just a haircut. You’re paying for the experience, the product, the time of the person doing your hair, and so much more. I really hope this helps. It’s not about charging ridiculous amounts, it’s about charging for what the client will be receiving. Also keep in mind, that some hairdressers charge more because they are specialists or because they’re great at what they do, or the area you’re looking in.

Ho a late answer to an old post, thank you!
I understand what you are saying. But they are exceptions like you say, and there might be more if hair salons stopped making it about genders but about style.
A lot of men style their haircut a lot and a lot of women don’t at all.
I feel like it would all be better if they charged by the work asked and not imposed it on your gender. Rather impose their prices on what you want.
Maybe then we’ll see a lot of women asking for less and a lot of men asking for more.

(Which is why I wish tumblr would have dates on their shit, ugh)

People already do, it’s really a salon by salon basis, many have a base price and go up depending on what you get. Some salons base price includes all that stuff because a lot of stylists want their female clients walking out with nice styled hair because that’s our advertising. If your hair looks good when you walk out, other people want to come in and see us. When people walk out with wet hair that looks like it’s half done, it doesn’t look good for us. Where men can walk out with wet hair not even styled, and look good. That’s why many salons charge that way.
The salons that don’t charge that much are the ones that just do the cut.

I suppose there are many more reasons that I just can’t think of, but unless you’re going in for a clipper cut, or your cut takes less than 15 minutes, it’s pretty justifiable. Also, men tend to tip better and a lot of us live on tips because (in the us anyways) most of us get no benefits and have to run our own business.

I wish my hair would just do what I want.
“Stop turning orange and yellow randomly. I’m trying to avoid bleaching you to death. I am trying to save you.”

Asshole.

NEVER ever ever keep bleaching your hair because it’s yellow. You get out the unwanted colors by toning your hair or using a colored shampoo as someone else suggested.
